Alpha-1 Ballistic Missile
Vintage 1950's-60's Alpha-1 Ballistic Missile Rocket Set by AMSCO
This is a rare Alpha-1 Ballistic Missile flying toy, made by AMSCO from 1958-1968. AMSCO Industries responded to the "Space Race" in 1958 with the Alpha-1 Ballistic Missile, “designed by missile engineers, tested in Cape Canaveral.” Mix up some baking soda and vinegar, put it into the missile, put it on the launch pad, and pull the string. Capable of reaching altitudes of up to 200 feet, the "educator approved" Alpha-1 was but one of many toys introduced in the post Sputnik 1950's space-race era to get American kids interested in science and rocketry. This cool piece of Space-Race history makes a beautiful display piece for your vintage toy or space-age collection! Measures 10" tall.
CONDITION: Box is in very good condition and displays nicely. Rocket and launch pad are also in very good condition. Instructions have been torn but are complete. Toy has been well-used but looks to be complete, other than the baking soda has all been used. I would not recommend trying to launch the rocket as the plastic is around 65 years old now and may not handle the landing very well. Neat & Complete!
